On December 18th, 2025, the OHS Orchestras and Bands had their winter concert. Nicholas Feigenbaum and Rodrigo Vargas directed the concert. Together, the orchestras and bands played a total of 13 pieces. First, the symphonic band performed, then the string orchestra, followed by the chamber orchestra, then the wind ensemble, and finally the jazz band.
The first piece of the concert was performed by the symphonic band and conducted by Rodrigo Vargas. The piece was Drive! By Patrick Roszell. They then performed Ascend by Samuel R. Hazo. Afterwards, the string orchestra performed two songs and both were conducted by Nicholas Feigenbaum. Their first piece was Forgotten Fairytale by Edward MacDowell Arr. N. Feigenbaum. Their second piece was a stunner called Oblivion by Larry Clark. The wind ensemble then took the stage and performed three songs conducted by Rodrigo Vargas. Their first piece was Dedication Overture by Vittorio Giannini. Their second performance was Hung Aloft the Night by Anthony O’Toole. Their third piece was Toccata by Patrick J. Burns. After their wonderful performance the chamber orchestra stole the show. They performed three pieces, one of which was composed by OHS alumn Addison Flower. All performances by the chamber orchestra were conducted by Nicholas Feigenbaum. Their first piece was Acht Stucke by Paul Hindemith. Their second performance was Summit Sunrise by Addison Flower. They concluded their performance with Die Fledermaus Overture by Johann Strauss II. Finally as the show’s finale, the jazz band performed and was conducted by Rodrigo Vargas. Their first piece was Cute by Neil Hefti arr. Bob Mintzer. Their second performance was Ran Kan Kan by Tuti Puente arr. Michaek Phillip Mossman. The concert was ended by the delightful song Happy by John Ellis arr. Jamey Simmons.
A big congratulations to all the seniors who played at their last ever winter concert! Seniors from the chamber orchestra include Alexander Bradley, Olivia Wallace, Mateo Montes de Oca, Michael Marquez, Evelyn Mora, Madison Bisnauth, and Riu Penafiel. For the wind ensemble the seniors are Hanna Contreras, Jason Bottone, Catherine Bates, Frank Murphy II, Tyrzah Mkwandawire, Andy Chuchuca, Bruno Flores, Jordan Goldberg, Carter Simkins, Robert Kang, and Junot Flower.
