On April 14th, 2025, the annual WNBA Draft took place. The WNBA Draft is an event where WNBA teams choose new players for their rosters. The draft will have three rounds, and each round will allow for 12 or more players to be selected. This year, there were 38 new players selected to go on the WNBA teams.
The first pick of the 2025 annual WNBA Draft was Paige Bueckers. She was selected by the Dallas Wings. Paige Bueckers was a phenomenal player for UConn for 5 years. Her final year at UConn was marked with great success. UConn won the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
Other picks from the first section were:
- Seattle Storm: Dominique Malonga
- Washington Mystics: Sonia Citron
- Washington Mystics: Kiki Iriafen
- Golden State Valkyries: Justė Jocytė
- Washington Mystics: Georgia Amoore
- Connecticut Sun: Aneesah Morrow
- Connecticut Sun: Saniya Rivers
- Chicago Sky: Hailey Van Lith
- Dallas Wings: Aziaha James
The 2025 WNBA Draft was broadcasted live on ESPN. Ryan Ruocco on ESPN shocked everyone when he called out Sedona Prince for not making the WNBA Draft despite having played college basketball for 7 years. He said, “Sedona Prince, who has not been drafted yet, was projected in the second round or better in all conference center, was a huge contributor to TCU’s best season ever. Off the court has faced assault accusations from four women since 2019. Has denied those allegations. Has not been charged with a crime. Our reporting confirms, though this is something that teams were looking at, along with her age and her injury history.” Sedona Prince is 6’7’’ and attended 3 schools to play Division I basketball over seven years, yet she was not selected by any team in the WNBA Draft. Picking Sedona Prince for a WNBA team would not be worth the backlash the team would get.
The other women who were selected for the draft were:

Ossining is so proud of Aubrey Griffin, who was drafted to the Minnesota Lynx team. Aubrey Griffin graduated from Ossining High School in 2019 and went on to play Division I basketball at UConn. This year, she was the 37th pick of the WNBA Draft. Good luck, Aubrey Griffin!
