Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr wrote for four justices that spoke out for the controlling opinion. He wrote that “there is no right in our democracy more basic than the right to participate in electing our political leaders.”

Dissenting Opinions included that of Justice Stephen G. Breyer. He officiated that the development that raised the overall contribution ceiling was raising it to “the number infinity.” Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan corroborate such opinions by calling into attention that there would now be “a single individual [who could] contribute millions of dollars to a political party or to a candidate’s campaign.”
