There is plenty of athletic talent in OHS, and this fall season proves it. Many of our athletes have recently received awards and recognition for their performance. The Current was able to sit down with some of the all league and all section winners and honorable mentions to ask them a few questions about their experience with sports.

The Current: When did you first start playing sports?

Juma Byabusha: When I  was in 1st grade.

Abby Squirrell: I started playing soccer when I was 4 years old, in the AYSO Soccer Clinic.

Krissie Borrero: I started playing field hockey in 7th grade.

TC: Are you planning to continue playing sports? If not, why?

Byabusha: Yes.

Squirrell: This was my last year playing soccer. I’ve decided to pursue lacrosse in college. It was extremely hard for me, leaving soccer behind, but I’m excited for my future!

Borrero: Yes, I’m planning to play field hockey in college.

TC: What has playing this sport taught you? What does this award mean to you?

Byabusha: This sport taught me how to work as a team, and that people need to work hard to get where they want to be. I’m honored.

Squirrell: Soccer has taught me how important it is to be a team player, and to be a leader on and off the field. It has also showed me how important the bonds I have made with all my teammates are. I have gotten so close with each and every one of them. I can’t imagine having gone through high school without them.

Borrero: Field hockey has taught me how important it is to work as a team, as well as be a leader, and that having goals is very important. The award means a lot because it shows that my hard work was noticed.

Congratulations to all of our all league, all section, and honorable mention winners!
