Athlete of the Month: Samantha Cozzolino

Playing three varsity sports year round with no break is not an easy task. However, junior Sam Cozzolino does just that! Sam is being recognized as Ossining High School’s Athlete of the Month. Why, might you ask? Cozzolino has accomplished things that many athletes her age can only dream of.  At the young age of 16, she is a nationally recognized NY State Champion for Girls Basketball, one of the captains for the 2014 varsity soccer team and a is a strong lacrosse player. The Current sat down with the Ossining High School Sam hoping that she would share her secrets to success both on and off the field.

TC: What sports do you play? Which one do you enjoy the most?

SC: I play Soccer,basketball and lacrosse. I enjoy soccer the most.

TC: What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

SC: Being apart of a state champ team.

TC: Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

SC: Scoring a goal during a JV girls soccer game on my team.

TC: If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

SC: My rule change (for soccer) would be that it would be okay to become the goalie just by stepping into the box.

TC: How do you balance school and sports year round?

SC: I use time management. School always comes first, and it helps to have coaches that understand that school is important.

TCDo you ever get tired of playing 3 varsity sports year round?

SC: Sometimes it can be overwhelming and I think I should give up one but, then when I really think about it I realize this is what I love. I love being active and part of a team. This is who I am.
