Despite the overwhelming amount of horror movies that come out every year during Halloween, it can be generally assumed that people in ohs are looking forward to Christmas movies more. After talking to 20 people in the library this past week, 18 said they preferred Christmas movies over scary movies. I would consider this a landslide win for Christmas movies, despite the 2 votes for scary movies. An interesting thing to note is the reasons that people gave for preferring Christmas movies. Of, the 18, 10 said that they don’t enjoy being scared and would rather watch a classic Christmas movie that fills them with joy instead. Out of the remaining 8, 6 said that its either part of a family tradition to watch Christmas movies or they just enjoy the pleasantness of the holiday in general. So, despite the fact that it seems as if the youth are today are becoming more and more interested in being scared, a lot of us still enjoy being a child again and watching our favorite Christmas movies with our family. These findings make you curious about the root of this preference for Christmas movies psychologically. In a study done by Dr. Glen Sparks, it was found that a big part of our preference for films stems from how we feel after the movie. In some cases people enjoy the warm-hearted feeling of Christmas movies after a Christmas movie and in others, people enjoy the thrill of a scary movie. All in all, it depends on your personality, but I’m sure that scary movies and Christmas classics will continually find their way into homes across the community. Here are some suggestions for Christmas movies as the season is approaching: The Polar Express, Elf, The Santa Claus, Fred Claus, Its a Wonderful Life, and White Christmas. In terms of scary movies, in case Christmas movies are to conservative, here are some of the better scary movies to consider next time you turn on the television: The shinning, Psycho, Ouija, Carrie, The Purge, The Conjuring, Silence of the Lambs, The Ring, Lights Out, and Don’t Breathe.
