There’s a lot to look forward to in the movie department this summer, whether you’re looking to add comedy or drama to your life. And to all you book lovers there are some extremely interesting looking movies that are based on books coming out soon.

The Giver is adapted from Lois Lowry’s 1994 Newbery winning book. Don’t judge it by its age (or its cover, even though it’s pretty cool), just look out for it in August as a can’t-miss film. Essentially, it’s about a 16 year old named Jonas who is living in a seemingly “perfect world,” where everyone has a specific niche in the community. This is a utopian society where conflict never ensues—but when Jonas is granted the role as the Seer, or the Receiver of Memories, he realizes that his “perfect” society is not so perfect after all. He realizes they had given up their humanity for this illusion of an ideal society. The concept of it is very compelling, and book purists will most likely be looking to seeing how the directors of the movie have translated it onto the big screen.

Another movie based on a book that is coming out this summer is The Fault in Our Stars, adapted from John Green’s well known and critically acclaimed novel. This is another inspirational tale, about Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters, two very bright and witty teenagers who meet at a cancer support group. They fall in love, and this is their story. This is a movie with a plot that can resonate with the majority of the teenage demographic, even with the somewhat unusual circumstances.

Let’s talk about 22 Jump Street. This film is the sequel to 21 Jump Street, a popular comedy featuring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. This movie continues the story of Officers Schmidt and Jenko as they go undercover at a college, only to end up questioning their partnership. However what won’t be in question is the myriad of people in the theaters yearning to gaze their eyes upon this much anticipated film.                                                                                                                                                                                                          Seth MacFarlane is well known for his popular TV shows American Dad! and Family Guy and has  shown his prowess in popular film Ted. MacFarlane hopes to replicate this success in another movie you have to check out. This western comedy revolves around a farmer, who wants to impress the new girl in town by becoming a courageous cowboy who competes with her “notorious gun-slinging” husband, all while attempting to stay alive in the West. A combination that is bound to have you rolling on the floor!                                                                                                                                                                                          With the multitude of movies coming out this summer you can’t go wrong. From the movie adaptation of books, to the anticipated blockbuster comedies, this summer holds a lot for everyone!
