Don’t let the name fool you; Evil Arrows’ music is not as heavy as you’d think. A three piece band out of Brooklyn, they have a certain old-timey sound with a modern twist. There are currently two EP’s out by Evil Arrows, with the straightforward titles of EP 1 and EP 2. They are the first two installments in a series of EP’s. I personally enjoyed EP 1 more than EP 2; however they both have a unique and enjoyable sound. The first one sounds like a cross between The Beatles and The Violent Femmes, with current indie rock style thrown into the mix, creating very catchy tunes. In the second EP, the influences from the two bands previously mentioned are split between songs–the Violent Femmes influencing songs like “Last Living Doll” and “Lady Brain” being heavily influenced by the sound of The Beatles. Despite these influences that I heard in their music, Evil Arrows has their own distinct sound that drew me in as soon as I heard the first song on EP 1. The band creates more interest in their music by changing their approach to each EP, and I look forward to hearing subsequent releases. You can find their music on Bandcamp or iTunes, although I would recommend buying on Bandcamp because you can download in any format imaginable and EP 1 comes with a pdf file of lyrics.
