For those of you who are looking for a tale of friendship, love, and everything that comes with the life of a pirate, then Peter and the Starcatcher is a must see. OHS Drama will be performing this play in the second week of November, so make sure to mark the dates on your calendar! The play upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, the play was conceived for the stage by directors, Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, and written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair… and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

A young orphan and his companions are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by an evil King. Knowing nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, we soon find out that it contains a precious, otherworldly treasure. While at sea, the boys are found by a young girl named Molly, a “Starcatcher-in-training” who realizes that the trunk’s cargo is “starstuff”(a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands). When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure which will be sure to grab you by the hand and take you along with the performers.

Featuring breathtaking performances from all of OHS Drama, seeing this play should definitely be on your radar. Keep an eye out for unforgettable acting from Charles Blaha (Black Stache), John Zhinin (Boy), Ethan Tampus (Lord Leonard Aster), Ruby Rodgers (Mrs. Bumbrake/Teacher), and numerous others. Led fearlessly by Jessica Beattie, OHS Drama’s adaptation of Peter and the Starcatcher uses ingenious stagecraft and limitless possibilities of imagination to bring the story to life. It will most certainly be an amazing performance can be technically and compared to any other major theatre company.
