Ossining Swimming Victory Over Undefeated Arlington
October 19, 2015
Ossining has been running a girl’s varsity swim team since 2007, with Katrina Baker as the founding, and standing, coach. The girls had gone through intense practices since then and all had to push their hardest to achieve victory after victory. Most notably on October 2 the team definitely had something to celebrate for as they had won against Arlington, who were undefeated champions for seven seasons. “I couldn’t believe it!” said Coach Katrina. She said that neither her nor the team were expecting to win so it came as a huge surprise when they did. Apparently, the girls were completely besides themselves. The final score was 86-84.
“It was very close,” said one of the swimmers when discussing their triumph. When asked how their performance was, Coach Baker replied, “I think every girl swam their hardest in that pool.” The meet was very intense, the Arlington team proved to be a tough match as it had all come down to the last relay. “We were determined and ready!” said one swimmer. “I was so happy I was ready to fly,” said another. The girls had beaten several school records and sectional times were created! When asked the coach what she was most proud of about the team she replied without hesitation, “their willingness to work together as team.” The girls were able to relate to each other and created bonds to be carried on throughout their high school years. The meet had also taught them a lot about themselves and gave them an unforgettable experience.
This year OVGS is walking away undefeated– it is the first year that happened since the genesis of the team in 2007. So when the coach was asked what was next for the team, she had to think for a moment “I guess…keep it up. Continue the success.” The girls are confident that they can do it next year as well and are very thankful for all the support shown to them from the school and community.
The Current would like to congratulate the girl’s swim team for all their achievements this season. Keep up the good work!
