Athlete of the Month: Elizabeth Keeley
March 4, 2015
Between finishing up her senior year and prepping for her freshman year in college, The Current was able to catch up with OHS long-distance runner, Elizabeth Keeley. Since the 7th grade, she has participated in track and field as well as cross-country. Keeley has set out from her freshman year to accomplish her goal of completing the 1500 meter race (slightly shorter than a mile) in less than five minutes and thirty-three seconds. Grinding that number into dust, she completed this race with a personal record of five minutes and twenty-eight seconds. Speaking with her for a few moments we were able to get a sneak peak into the fast lane.

EK: My favorite season is Cross Country because. I really like running on trails and the longer distances.
TC: What is your favorite thing about running for Ossining?
EK: My favorite part about running for Ossining is definitely the team members. Everyone works very hard and is incredibly supportive of everyone else. They’re also just really fun to be around.
TC: Do you wish to continue running in college?
EK: I’ll definitely keep running in college, hopefully on a club or intramural team.
*intramural: school team
TC: After completing your long time goal is there another that you strive to succeed?
EK: My next goal is to break 00:05:25 and eventually 00:05:20.
TC: Do you think the team has improved as a whole these past seasons in 2015?
EK: Absolutely. Everyone has worked very hard during both seasons, and has improved on their times.
TC: Do you have any advice for the incoming freshman runners?
EK: Continuing to run in between seasons is a very good idea!
With the spring season ahead of her The Current wishes her good luck!
