Fall has arrived, signifying the conclusion of the regular season of the MLB . This is the time in which teams and their fans can look forward to exhilarating playoff matchups, or next season. Regardless of any teams position in the standings, it can surely be said that the 2014 regular season was filled with many moments to look back upon.

The 2014 season was one that will surely be remembered as the, end of an era for numerous reasons. Both New York Yankees captain, Derek Jeter and Chicago White Sox captain, Paul Konerko will say goodbye to the game they loved, as each has announced their retirement effective at the end of the season. In addition to these two star players, MLB commissioner Bud Selig has also announced that the 2014 season will be his last. Chief Operating Officer Rob Manfred will take over for Selig beginning in 2015.

Furthermore, MLB also lost one of the greatest players to ever play the game: Tony Gwynn. Gwynn, who spent his entire 20-year career with the San Diego Padres lost his battle to salivary gland cancer at the age of 54. The 15-time All-Star will surely be missed by many fans, players, and coaches throughout the game.

2014 will not only be remembered for losses, rather it will also be remembered by the 10 fortunate MLB franchises that will play on beyond the regular season, and attempt to capture a World Championship for the 2014 season. These 10 teams have battled through the entire 162 game schedule, and will now be rewarded for their success during that span.

Currently, three teams have already punched their ticket to the playoffs via a division title: The Washington Nationals, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Other teams that have already solidified their spot in the playoffs include the St. Louis Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite not clinching their respective divisions or clinching a wild card spot yet, they have clinched playoff berths, which means that they will enjoy the playoff party as well.

As the MLB regular season comes to an end, October will go a long way in determining what teams will be remembered for their performances during the season. Ultimately, one will be crowned the champion, while the other 29 teams contemplate how their organization can reach that level next season. But when everything is all said and done, 2014 will surely be a year to remember for many organizations and their fans.
