Darwin Arias, Editor-At-Large

For the month of October, The Current is featuring an excellent and dedicated male artist, Gabriel Lucero. Gabriel, a senior at Ossining High School, excels as a proficient photographer and artist. Since his freshmen year in high school, Gabriel has been intrigued with the extensive choices of Ossining High School’s art department. Classes he has taken include Photography 1, Photography 2, Photography 3, Photography 4, SUNY Beginning Photography & Digital Imaging, and Drawing 1. Gabriel continues to extend his artistic abilities through classes he is currently enrolled in which include SUNY Drawing 1 and Ap Studio Art which he takes as an independent study with art teacher Mrs. Shams. Gabriel’s devotion to the artistic field has not been limited to only high school classes. Gabriel continues his enthusiastic interest for the arts outside of school as he is currently enrolled in a pre-college class called Intermediate Traditional & Digital Photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology, a university in New York City. Gabriel’s devotion to photography and drawing show that he has found a loving passion for practicing the arts.

Following is an interview with the artist of the month, Gabriel Lucero:

TC: Do you plan on following a career in the art field?

GL: I want to do a lot with my photography, but i’m not too sure what career exactly… fashion photographer rolls off the tongue nicely.

TC: What led you to create your own website?

GL: The website just kind of happened. One day in the summer I was fooling around and I decided to make it. After hours of figuring out how to set it all up I uploaded it with some photos I took. It’s cool to say I have one but it is definitely a work in progress

TC: What do you like/love about taking art classes outside of high school?

GL: Taking classes outside of school is a way better experience. Meeting people who would spend their weekends taking art classes just means that they are as passionate about it as you which is awesome! I would rather spend my saturdays no other way. I love the fact that once I am done with my film class, I get to roam the big city and photo shoot all around.

TC: Since when have you known that you wanted to pursue a career in the arts? Why?

GL: Somewhere between my sophomore and junior year of high school is where I considered photography a possibility as a career and ever since then its been my goal. I decided to spend my free time with photography and I guess I got used to the idea of taking pictures.
