Have you ever wondered what it would be like to stay in an underwater hotel? Well this dream may soon become a reality with innovations hitting tropical locations around the world. These new vacation retreats will be placed in the Florida keys and on the coast of Tanzania. The hotels are not particularly large but can span up to 9 meters underwater. Imagine being greeted every morning by marine life tapping against your window. New plans for construction of underwater hotels in Florida Keys and Dubai are underway.

One of the first underwater hotels in the Florida Keys was the “Jules’ Undersea Lodge”. In order to access the secluded cabin, one must scuba dive 21 feet underwater. The Jules’ Undersea Lodge describes the lodge as an “underwater clubhouse”, well equipped with a fully stocked kitchen, books, music, and other necessities. The quaint underwater hotel also states that it can be a useful vacation destination for those interested in studying marine biology and underwater habitats. To enjoy this phenomenal hotel you will definitely have to cough up some cash, with nightly rates starting at $675 for a single person occupancy.

For those willing to spend a little more, the Hilton’s Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort is right up your alley. Unfortunately the resort itself is not entirely underwater, but it is one of the first of it’s kind, allowing guests to enjoy the magical experience of dining while fish swim overhead in an arched glass structure. This resort in the Maldives also includes the famous Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, which is located 16 feet below sea level and is the world’s first ever undersea eatery.

New prototypes of underwater resorts are currently underway in the Florida Keys. The prototype is called “Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel”, and is supported by Tony Webb; the head of the innovative project. This hotel would be located 150 feet below sea level, and would offer the same commodities that a hotel on land would, perhaps even more. Guests would be able to scuba and snorkel within minutes of exiting their suite. The design of the hotel consists of individual submarine like capsules. These capsules would carry the guests from the surface to their hotel room and vice versa. This design does not have a set date but the prototype is supposed to be hauled from the Florida Keys to Cuba once it is completed. Similar designs have been proposed in  Dubai. One project is being named the “Water Discus”. This complex would be 1000 sq. meters and be equipped with a spa, restaurant, and bar. Unfortunately this project has not yet managed to set a start date. With so many of these hotels popping up around the world, more people may begin to skip traditional hotels and take the plunge towards underwater hotels.
