The beloved Landmark Diner, located on the Ossining-Briarcliff Manor border, was engulfed in flames on August 22nd, 2019. Crews from Briarcliff, Scarborough, Millwood, Pleasantville, Montrose, Yorktown, and Valhalla joined Ossining firefighters in their fight to put out the stubborn fire. Once the blaze at Landmark Diner was extinguished after seven hours, they began demolishing the remains of the building. Two volunteer firefighters at the scene were treated for heat and smoke-related conditions at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow. None of the staff or customers at the diner were injured.

Jean Quinde, a junior at OHS said that, “Landmark Diner was my favorite place to eat. The school’s sports teams went to eat there after games or would have a team meeting at the diner.” Nina Conte, who is also a junior at OHS said, “I have been going to the Landmark Diner since I was a baby. I live right behind it in a condo complex. I have gotten to know the owners and staff and they have always been so sweet to me. It was a very family friendly place that was around for years.”

Owner, Aristidis Thanos is committed to having the diner rebuilt. In the meantime, Landmark staff will be allowed to work at the other Thanos Restaurant Group locations, The Stamford in Stamford, Connecticut and The Mirage Restaurant & Cafe in New Rochelle, NY.

The Gullotta House, a community based organization has raised $14,300 for diner staff and their families since the fire. According to Matthew Gullotta, president of Gullotta House, Landmark’s owner and his staff have always been big supporters of the Gullotta House when Westchester residents were in need. Now, Gullotta feels that it is his turn to help the diner’s staff and to thank Thanos for his generosity over the years.
