Welcome, Freshmen

Adriel Williams, Editor-in-Chief

Welcome, Freshmen.

As you embark upon a new school year, it can be a bit daunting to walk into a building you have rarely been to. And as your very own student newspaper, we would be remiss if we didn’t at least send you a proper welcome on your four year adventure.

If you haven’t already noticed, The Current is your school newspaper where your voice can be heard. We encourage you to take a look around the site where you will (hopefully) be checking back every month for the rest of your high school career. A wide variety of articles are available for you to write and we can even do videos now! From local sports, to movie reviews, to international crises, we cover it ALL. We encourage you to write for us—meetings are held in room 207 on the first Thursday of every month.

We want you to remember that this newspaper is about you. So much so, our very own Student-Life Editor Brinda Ramesh was gracious enough to interview countless upperclassmen to salvage every last bit of advice for you incoming 9th graders. Not only should this video be especially applicable to you, but it should be enjoyable as well. Aaron Spring, our sports editor was kind enough to spend hours scouting (he even wore sunglasses, now that’s dedication!) every fall OHS sports team to give you guys a better gist as to who is doing what, and who to look out for on each team during the school year(article coming out soon). If that’s not convincing enough for you, Dina, our co-layout editor outlined EVERY after school club at the high school. Every single one. If you have the slightest trepidation regarding your extracurricular activities, look no further than Dina’s article. How convenient is that? We have many more on here too, so explore the site!

Nerves get the best of the bravest when doing something new. Have no fear, you will adjust to the fast paced life of High School. And hey, if you find yourself getting stressed throughout the year, you are always welcome to write an article about it in The Current—and if you don’t want to do that, you’re also welcome to visit this article to see my smiling face in the picture over there to the right. Welcome, freshmen.
