Senior, Molly Haag, has actively participates in three school sports, volleyball, winter track, and lacrosse. She also plays year round volleyball with Downstate, where she plays for the national travel club team. Having played for the varsity volleyball team since her sophomore year of high school, Molly earned herself a spot as a starting six player her senior year. Molly’s athleticism and grit make her a reliable outside hitter. Her defensive skill set is also incredibly impressive, making her a well rounded player anywhere on the court. She was also a go to player during the section finals which was OVV’s first section win since 2004. These traits were what made her worthy of her all league, all conference, and all section awards. During the winter months she participated in winter track and competes in shot put events where she showcases her upper body strength, as well as her impeccable form. Molly is the starting goalie for Ossining High School’s lacrosse and team and plays alongside girls who are also on her volleyball team.

What follows is an interview with this month’s athlete.

TC: So how do you feel about your last year in OHS?

MH: It’s honestly so bittersweet because I am leaving behind team mates that I have bonded with over the years and I’ve really created a family in each of the sports that I’ve participated in, but at the same time I am ready to move on to college and make new connections.

TC: What’s the most important aspect of being on a team?

MH: I think the most important thing is to be there for your team mates. It’s so key to have good chemistry with the girls you play with because if you have problems off the field or the court it sometimes shows in the way you interact with them during games.

TC: How do you think participating in sports has shaped your character?

MH: Being in school sports has really taught me how to deal with high stress situations and to maintain my composure. It has also taught me the importance a team dynamic, like how to work cohesive with several other people.

TC: What’s your favorite sport?

MH: Like in general or of the ones I play? {Of the ones you play in school}. Okay, that would have to  be volleyball, because it’s the one that I play year round, but I love all the sports I play in school, mainly because of my teammates.

TC: What are you planning to do after your senior year?

MH: I just got accepted to Northeastern in Boston, so I’ll be going there in the Fall. I also got invited to their abroad program (N.U. IN) so during the first semester I’m going to Ireland with group of first year students. I want to major in biochemistry and I’m really looking forward to the new setting I’m going to experience in Boston.
