U.S. Borders

The presidency of Donald J. Trump has just begun as of January 20th, 2017 and already he is making critical moves. Having only being in office as of nine days President Trump has already initiated an executive order according to the New York Times that prevents immigrants and refugees from entering the United States from several countries in order to decrease any attempt at a terrorist attack on the country. Many have believed, including other government officials, this to be a very controversial move. Some have thought it to be promising and a positive action in protecting the American people while others, believe the action to be ludicrous and unfair. But it has come to the attention of some that Trump himself can pose as a contradiction of his word. At verbatim from the White House via the Executive Order, “In addition, the United States should not admit those who engage in acts of bigotry or hatred (including “honor” killings, other forms of violence against women, or the persecution of those who practice religions different from their own) or those who would oppress Americans of any race, gender, or sexual orientation…” His move to protect the people of the United States can be considered, as in this above quote, to be quite hypocritical to himself and previous personal matters of President Trump . In prior interviews and during his current presidency Trump has exercised behavior that deliberately goes against his own Executive Order. He has exercised bigotry, and oppressed those of other ethnicity/race, and gender.

Most recently in retaliation to previous allegations against Trump on prior behavior, the United States people utilized their right of freedom of speech to undertake affirmative action with numerous Women’s Marches throughout the country this just past weekend (January, 2017) and into the upcoming month. The marchers held signs talking back to Trump’s now famous quote, “ Grab them by the pussy.” with “them” referring to women. Some signs reflected images of women similar to former president Obama’s 2008 iconic poster of “Yes We Can”, while one had a sign that read, “I will not quietly go back to the 1950s”, and even children had some signs similar too, “I (insert heart emoji) [love] naps but, I stay woke”, each refusing to stay silent at Trump’s heinous sexist actions. Another movement that may be considered as oppressing people of another race or ethnicity is the building of the wall between the U.S. and Mexico (not supported by 38 members of Texan government); costing up to 22  billion US dollars which is more money than repairing the pipelines in Flint, Michigan for clean water. Because of his usage of the term “Americans” you can rightly say that Mexicans are Americans as they are a part of the North American continent and that he is oppressing the race of people. And thus with this Executive Order it is made possible to believe that Trump is deliberately excluding those who practice the Muslim religion and making them susceptible to all terrorist attacks when in reality not all Muslims are terrorists.

But in opposing views and more positive views of Trump’s behaviors, some believe Trump is doing the right thing in that, he is limiting immigration in a country with a rapidly overflowing population and keeping danger out of the lives of the American people. The removing of those whose countries may be more closely affiliated with terrorist attacks can be viewed as a positive move in the right direction because as President of the United States part of his job is to keep the American people safe and make this country, “great again.” Furthermore those who are confident in this executive order find that he is keeping his word from during the presidential campaign trail where Trump did in fact make these claims.

While he is moving forward with this Executive Order he is also reducing healthcare for those affiliated with Obamacare, no longer funding Planned Parenthood, and bonding with Russian leader, Vladimir Putin. While Trump may not be doing things in the way that many Americans think is correct, he is still doing what he thinks is right for America and all we can do as an American people is stand up for what’s right and prevent the next Hunger Games…I mean make America great again.
